According to the data of Central Statistical Office for the year 2016, Siemianowice Śląskie was on the 18th place in terms of length of cycle paths, out of the nineteen cities in the communes of Silesian Voivodeship – with 2.2 km of cycling paths. This situation has significantly improved thanks to the implementation of the project, in the framework of which, 17 km of new bike trails were created, located by the key green areas and connecting the main districts of the city.

Why was the project undertaken?

Making a decision on the project emerged due to the lack of communication networks in Siemianowice Śląskie and the lack of incentives for the citizens to use the public transportation and/or bike paths in the form of integrated transfer centres, including car parks, Bike&Ride and Park&Ride.

What has been achieved?

As a result of the implementation of the project, 4 integrated transport interchanges were created, covering with their range a modern public transport infrastructure (such as Bus stop shelters, bus bays), Bike&Ride and Park&Ride parks and 17 km of new bike roads that link the main districts of the city with each other.

Who uses/benefits from the effects of the project?

Key recipients of the project are the residents of Siemianowice and the neighbouring municipalities. Bike routes are connected with the routes of other cities, so there is a synergy effect and residents can use the infrastructure throughout the whole metropolis.

What are the main benefits of the project?

The main benefit of the implementation of the project is the increase in the number of people using public transport and bicycles, thus reducing the use of private cars.
