Jasna Góra is more beautiful with every day

Throughout centuries numerous popes, kings and aristocrats prayed to Black Madonna. Jasna Góra also witnessed great historical events. Today it is the spiritual capital of Poland and the most famous Marian sanctuary. Every year the place enjoys pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. The Pauline Monastery is currently undergoing another comprehensive modernization and maintenance.

The photograph show a father Czesław Brud, administrator of the Pauline Monastery on Jasna Góra: A man with grey hair wearing glasses and a white cassock, with a cheerful expression on his face, is standing next to the car. The photo was taken by Maciej Motylewski.

Jasna Góra occupies a special place not only in the hearts of Poles. Every year, we are visited by several million people, often from remote parts of Europe and the world. They are not only believers but also tourists interested in the cultural heritage of our ancestors. The centuries-old buildings, which are monuments of history, have for years accumulated rich collections and interesting exhibits. Constantly growing tourism and limited exhibition possibilities have led us to look for new ways to make our heritage more accessible. Together with the provincial conservator we evaluated the condition of the buildings and found a solution. Degraded buildings, which have so far been used mostly as warehouses, are now being given new functions. Conservation works will help to protect them from further damage and help to retain all its architectural values.

For museum and exhibition purposes, we have adapted previously unused parts of the bastion of St. Roch Bastion, the Hospice Building and the Northern Curtain. As part of the project, we carried out general reconstruction, including construction, maintenance and installation works in the field of ventilation, air conditioning, heating, supervision, access control and fire alarm systems. The most difficult task was to find the balance. It is not easy to expose such valuable and diverse exhibits and to meet the high technical safety standards at the same time. That’s why we were doing specialized architectural research while implementing the project.

The investment was carried out in a facility unique in terms of history and architecture, a complex of extraordinary value for national heritage and Polish culture Without a doubt, it is an event that will be recorded in the chronicles of the sanctuary.

The first exhibit of the new museum is a reminder of Jack Paul II - a Pope’s BMW with Vatican plates, which the Pope used to visit Roman parishes.

The photograph presents Father Wojciech Dec, the subprior of the Jasna Góra monastery. He is wearing a white cassock and a black vest and he’s standing next to the black BMW - one of the exhibits in the Jasna Gora Museum. The photo was taken by Dominik Wójcik.

As for millions of believers, Jasna Góra is of great importance to me too. The most accurate statement was made by Saint John Paul II, who made numerous pilgrimages here, to our Mother: "Poles are used to coming to Jasna Gora... because here beats the heart of the Nation in the heart of the Mother. Because here we were always free”.

I am very pleased with the work carried out in recent years in our sanctuary. All the activities focused on construction and conservation work will make it possible for the growing collection of Jasna Góra to see the light of day, and consequently, the pilgrims coming here will see new votive collections and hopefully feel at home here. After all, it is no coincidence that this place was called the "Sanctuary of the Polish Nation".

The renovated rooms will be used to exhibit memorabilia connected with John Paul II, the Servant of God Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński and the presidents of the Republic of Poland. In connection with these expositions, a new room has been prepared for various meetings, lectures, presentations and projections for smaller groups. In the new exhibition section we will also present antique fabrics from our collections, including liturgical robes from the XVI-XX century. So all the spaces of the St. Roch Bastion, Western Curtain (lower rooms of the Hospice) and Northern Curtain will be filled with exhibits from The Votive Collections of Jasna Góra.

This investment is of great importance to all those who have been coming to Jasna Góra for over six centuries. It was the Mother of God, the Queen of Poland and this special place that various kings, presidents, heads of state, but also by other pilgrims visited to thank for all grace they received, ask for help and hand over souvenirs - votive collections, often very valuable and important for them. It is our duty to take care of these souvenirs and, as far as possible, to show them to future generations. This honorable duty can now be fulfilled.
